Windows Phone overtakes iPhone in the Smartphone Market Share race

According the guys at Emerce, Windows Phone Tango handsets in China which was launched 2 months back has surpassed the market share of iPhone and now it already has a 7% market share, ahead of iPhone which currently has only 6%.

According to Michel van der Bel, “Our smartphone and tablet-pc are hybrid, making them suitable for the consumer, but also easy to insert within an existing company infrastructure. This will allow us to better anticipate the consumerization of IT than many competitors. “

image

But Android still dominates the market share with around 69%. With Windows 8 release in the pipeline, Microsoft has really a great thing to show in the smartphone and tablet market. Android is no doubt the most reached OS on the globe, iOS which is best known for its eco system but Windows Phone with its unique Metro tile UI is gaining a critical appeal among the smartphone geeks, even Steve Woznaik has praised the UI. The only thing which Windows Phone lags is the number of apps which may increase once the market share is increased.

With this it seems there is lot of pressure on Apple to release the new iPhone which is already rumored in the market with iPhone 5, considering the bigger screen, LTE feature and of course the new iOS 6. Apple really needs to come up with new design because Android already have great ecosystem in term of Screen Size and resolution, and now even Windows Phone 7 is giving the tough fight in China market. I am really curious to see who is going to lead the race but it seems Windows Phone clearly at second position in China.
